Npcs in Soulframe are non-playable characters that inhabit the world. They can provide information on different topics to piece together the Lore of the game, provide Locations of or Omen Beasts as well as giving Quests that may advance the history or provide some more context to what is going on in the world.

Wandering Souls in Soulframe
Wandering souls are the souls of your ancestors. The Wandering Souls will appear as you enter each location so you will know what you are looking for as you explore the Location or Dungeon. Once encountered, these can benefit the player by granting the player of buff which includes something like a fourth spell slot, or an improvement to attributes of the souls and ancestors system. Though these can be encountered in each location, their locations are randomly generated much like the Dungeons encountered in each location.

Kinds of NPCs and Characters in Soulframe
There are a variety of encounters you can have in the game. As seen in the Gameplay prelude and Fireside talks with developers, Soulframe introduces talking animals. Other NPC encounters that were featured in the gameplay include Trapped Souls and Omen Beasts. Encountered NPCs could lead to valuable loot, or information on quests, Locations, or other Omen Beasts.
Interactions in Soulframe
As first seen in the gameplay prelude, Soulframe introduces Avakot who is first encountered after his rescue. A set of dialogue options will then appear. However, the dialogue choices that become available depend on the points you have which are tied to the stat indicated next to the dialogue option. Successful encounters will fill up your relationship, indicated by the petals to the side of the dialogue.
